Chemical Name: Mirtazapine Brand Name: Remeron (not available in generic) Manufacturer: Organon Inc. Description: Antidepressant medication of an unknown mechanism. Indication: Remeron is indicated for the treatment of depression. Contraindications, Warnings, and Precautions: Remeron may cause agranulocytosis (a decrease in white blood cells). Pregnant women and nursing mothers should be sure to discuss the risks of this medication with their doctor. Adverse Reactions: Possible common side effects include somnolence, dry mouth, increased appetite, weight gain, dizziness, and constipation. Less common include abnormal dreams, tremors, and agranulocytosis. Dosing Range: Your dosage will vary according to many factors. The typical starting dose may be 15mg at bedtime. This dosage may be gradually increased depending on your response, any side effects experienced, and tolerance. The maximum dose is 45 mg once a day. |
