Description:   An SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor).  The mechanism of action is presumed to be linked to potentiation of serotonergic activity in the central nervous system.

 Indications and Use:  For the treatment of depression.

Contraindications, Warnings and Precautions:  Contraindicated in persons taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI’s) or within 14 days of discontinuation of an MAOI.  Use cautiously with other central nervous system active drugs.  Do not use with alcohol.

 Adverse Reactions:  Possible common side effects may include somnolence, insomnia, dry mouth, nausea and increased sweating.  Less common side effects may include anxiety, dizziness, decreased libido, diarrhea, increased appetite, dysmenorrhea and amenorrhea.

 Dosing Range:  Initial dose is usually 20mg per day.
