Chemical Name:   Amphetamine Sulfate

Description: A single entity amphetamine product of unknown mechanism.  Adderall probably promotes nerve impulse transmission by releasing stored norepinephrine from nerve terminals in the brain.

Indications and Use:  For the management of Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity.

Contraindications, Warnings and Precautions:  Contraindicated in persons with advanced arteriosclerosis, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, moderate to severe hypertension, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, agitation, persons with a history of drug abuse, during or within 14 days following the administration of a monoamine oxidase inhibitor.  Adderall may exacerbate symptoms in psychotic children.  Amphetamines have been reported to exacerbate tics and Tourette’s syndrome and may also lower the seizure threshold.  Amphetamines have a high potential for abuse.  Caution should be used when there is a possibility for non-therapeutic use and/or distribution to others. 

Adverse Reactions:  Possible common side effects may include insomnia, decreased appetite, stomach pain, headache, irritability, and weight loss.  Less common side effects may include dizziness, dry mouth, diarrhea, constipation, metallic taste in the mouth.

Dosing Range:  Starting dose will vary according to weight and age.
